About the Solutions Portal

The Adaptation at Altitude Solutions Portal allows you to explore tried and tested climate change adaptation solutions for mountain regions, to see where they have been implemented, and to learn more about successful strategies in the mountains. The programme aims to foster exchange among the mountain areas of the world and promote short- and long-term solutions to the problems arising from climate change.

Watch the video for an introduction to the portal.

Key information

WHAT IS A ‘SOLUTION’?

For this portal, ‘solutions’ are defined as technologies, approaches, and/or processes to adjust natural or human systems to actual or expected climate impacts, in order to reduce expected losses or harness benefits. For example, a solution could be an early warning system or an education programme associated with it, but it could also be a combination of both.

Have knowledge to share but not sure it is a ‘solution’? You can also share and find relevant knowledge, make announcements and start discussions in the Climate Change Adaptation in Mountains theme on weADAPT: https://www.weadapt.org/mountains

WHY SHARE YOUR SOLUTION?

Sharing knowledge in ways that are easy for people to discover, filter and appraise helps others to replicate successful interventions and learn from past experiences. This is essential for expediting climate action globally, and avoiding the replication of past mistakes. It is also a great way of increasing the visibility of your work: we share contributed solutions through our social media feeds and newsletters (see ‘Spread the Word! below), at events and in publications, to help them reach new audiences.

WHO CAN CONTRIBUTE A SOLUTION?

Anyone how has been directly implementing or working with those implementing a solution can contribute a solution to this portal. This includes (but is not limited to) individuals, practitioners, and researchers from community level organisations, civil society organisations, charities, non-government organisations, governmental departments, universities, research institutes etc. You are also welcome to share details of other solutions you know of and think should be included. For questions and suggestions, please contact the team via info@weADAPT.org.

SHORT VS. DETAILED SOLUTIONS

Short solutions contain less information and are intended for pilot solutions and those early on in their implementation. Detailed solutions provide comprehensive, in-depth knowledge on established solutions and have been designed to meet the needs of decision-makers and practitioners looking for solutions they can implement. Find out more about this design process here.

OUR REVIEW PROCESS

To support the sharing of high-quality solutions all solutions contributed to the A@A Solutions Portal are reviewed by knowledge managers and expert editors. You can find the evaluation criteria for solutions here.

ADDING AND ACKNOWLEDGING COLLEAGUES AND PARTNERS

Those contributing solutions are encouraged to add solution team members to the submitted solution, so that they are correctly acknowledged. To enable this, team members can register on weADAPT here: https://www.weadapt.org/join-weadapt. Once registered, team members can be added as ‘Contributors’.

USE OF SOLUTIONS

After review, your solution will be published on-line, open access, and be shared under a Creative Commons license. Later updates and additions to responses can be made at any time, either directly by the solution team or by contacting the A@A Solutions Portal Team here.

SPREAD THE WORD!

We share contributed the solutions on Twitter (@at_altitude, @weADAPT1), Facebook (The weADAPT Community, Adaptation at Altitude) and LinkedIn (weADAPT Learn – Share – Connect, Adaptation at Altitude). You are welcome to share the A@A Solutions Portal Flyer!
