Summary

Last week, UNEP and Mountain Research Initiative co-hosted the Regional Adaptation Dialogue in the South Caucasus (RADISC) in Stepantsminda, Georgia – bringing together experts and stakeholders from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and beyond to discuss how to monitor and adapt to the region’s changing snow and ice cover.

With the breathtaking Mount Kazbek in view, through interactive sessions grounded in scientific evidence, participants explored national and regional needs, shared knowledge on monitoring and responding to cryosphere changes in the South Caucasus. Participants also visited the Devdoraki Valley to learn about Georgia’s early warning system for glacier-related hazards.

The event supported deepening regional and multi-stakeholder collaboration around ice and snow-related challenges and new opportunities for joint action.

This dialogue contributes to the UN General Assembly-declared International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation 2025.
