Sukaina Bharwani

Senior Researcher and Strategic and Technical Coordinator of weADAPT

I have a background in both social anthropology and computer science, which provides me with a unique perspective on climate change adaptation issues (risk, perceptions and behaviour) and I look for innovative methods to link qualitative and quantitative data and methods to further climate adaptation research. My interests include co-exploring and formalising local knowledge and more specifically tacit knowledge in a way that can be useful for understanding what drives adaptation decision-making to help reduce vulnerability to climate change.

My current research includes supporting urban adaptation in southern Africa through transdisciplinary knowledge co-production processesconnecting and visualising communities working on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction in Europe, contributing to the field of climate services, and supporting the design of effective science, policy and practice events through training and capacity development.

weADAPT Co-ordinator:

I coordinate the strategic and technical development of weADAPT.  My role in weADAPT and my research on knowledge management involves breaking down knowledge silos and reducing knowledge fragmentation by translating user needs (collated from our Knowledge Partners and networks) into the features and functionality that are of greatest benefit to climate adaptation research, practice, learning, collaboration and knowledge exchange.
