TFCG

Established in 1985, TFCG’s mission is to conserve and restore the biodiversity of globally important forests in Tanzania for the benefit of the present and future generations. We achieve this through capacity building, advocacy, research, community development and protected area management. Geographically TFCG’s work is focused on the Eastern Arc Mountains and Coastal forests of Tanzania.

Through field-based projects TFCG works with over 150 communities in Eastern Tanzania so that communities can manage their forests more effectively whilst also improving rural livelihoods. TFCG is currently piloting a number of innovative approaches to forest conservation including demonstrating a pro-poor model for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD); integrating sustainable charcoal production into participatory forest management; and promoting more participatory and equitable watershed management. Every year, TFCG assists farmers in Eastern Tanzania to plant over 1 million trees.
