Project Coordinator
PhD in Biology, University of York. Full professor at the Institute of Environmental and Ecological Sciences (ICAE) and the Postgrad in Tropical Ecology at Los Andes University, Venezuela. Coordinator in the Andes of the Adaptation at Altitude Programme (SDC). I work actively on the design and implementation of long-term monitoring, biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration strategies in alpine ecosystems, with emphasis on participatory and transdisciplinary approaches. My research has focused on linking patterns to processes for understanding vegetation diversity and dynamics in mountain ecosystems, integrating multiple spatial and temporal scales. I am particularly interested in analyzing the role of plant-plant interactions (competition/facilitation) and plant adaptive strategies on community assembly along environmental gradients and in response to successional dynamics and climate change. National Geographic Explorer. Coordinator in Venezuela of the GLORIA-Andes and the Andean Forest vegetation long-term monitoring networks.
